What we know about the Maine mass shooting victims

The names of the 18 people fatally shot at a bowling alley and restaurant in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night were released by Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck Friday evening.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Card, a 40-year-old Army reservist who was trained by the U.S. military and had been recently committed to a mental health facility. A shelter-in-place order was lifted in the immediate search area Friday evening as authorities narrowed their search for the gunman in the Androscoggin River near a boat launch where a vehicle belonging to Card was found.

Here’s what we know about the victims so far:

Tricia Asselin

Tricia Asselin, 53, was a part-time employee at Just-In-Time Recreation, the Lewiston bowling alley formerly known as Sparetime.

News outlets confirmed Thursday that Asselin was bowling there Wednesday night when the gunman opened fire, killing her and several others.

Asselin reportedly ran to a counter to call 911 when she was shot, her brother told CNN. He said Asselin's adult son is devastated by her loss.

Asselin was one of seven people killed at the bowling alley, and the only female.

William Brackett

William "Bill" Brackett, 48, was identified as one of the victims in the Lewiston mass shootings, according to Sauschuck.

Peyton Brewer-Ross

Peyton Brewer-Ross, 40, was the father of a 2-year-old girl and was a union pipefitter with Bath Iron Works who graduated from their apprenticeship program in 2022, the Portland Press Herald reported.

He was reportedly playing cornhole with friends at Schemengees Bar and Grille when a gunman walked in and opened fire Wednesday night.

His employer, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works confirmed his death in a post on Facebook Thursday.

"Peyton was a valuable part of our team… He was hired just five years ago and was making a positive impact on our company. He will be sorely missed," Bath Iron Works said.

Thomas Conrad

Thomas "Tommy" Conrad, 34, was identified as one of the 18 victims in the Lewiston mass shootings, according to Sauschuck.

Michael Deslauriers II

Michael Deslauriers II, 51, was identified as one of the victims in the Lewiston mass shootings, according to Sauschuck.

Maxx Hathaway

Maxx Hathaway, 35, was identified as one of the 18 victims in Wednesday's mass shootings, according to Sauschuck.

Bryan MacFarlane

Bryan MacFarlane, 41, was one of several people playing in a cornhole tournament at Schemengees Bar and Grille Wednesday night. MacFarlane was part of the local deaf community that gathered weekly at the Lewiston bar to play the game with other friends.

MacFarlane’s sister Keri Brooks told CNN he was one of the first deaf people in Vermont to get his commercial trucking driver’s license, and had recently moved back to Maine. Brooks recalled her brother loved his dog M&M and riding his motorcycle.

Brooks confirmed to CNN that MacFarlane was killed in Wednesday night’s mass shooting. The Maine Educational Center for the Deaf also confirmed MacFarlane’s death.

Keith Macneir

Keith Macneir, 64, was identified as one of the 18 victims in Wednesday's shooting rampage, according to Sauschuck.

Ron Morin

An upbeat, happy guy who was always smiling — that’s how family and friends described Ron Morin, who was at Schemengees Bar and Grille Wednesday night. “He was just always smiling, happy,” Cecile Francoeur Martin, a cousin of Morin’s wife, told the Bangor Daily News. She added that Ron was “just one of those people that if you are having a bad day, he was going to make your day better just by his presence.”

Martin told CNN that Ron Morin was identified as one of the victims killed in Wednesday night’s shooting. Martin said the family is “asking for prayers and privacy during this incredible time of shock and profound grief.”

Friends of Ron Morin have paid tribute to the 55-year-old in an outpouring of social media posts. “Those that knew him said he had a radiating light and was one of the funniest people they knew,” read one of the posts.

Joshua Seal, 36

Joshua Seal, 36, an American Sign Language interpreter and a father of four, was playing in a cornhole tournament with friends from the deaf community at Schemengees Bar and Grille Wednesday night when he was killed, his wife Elizabeth told WGME.

Sauschuck also confirmed Friday that Seal was among the 18 victims killed in the mass shootings.

Arthur Strout

Arthur Strout, 42, was identified as one of the 18 victims in Wednesday's mass shootings, according to Sauschuck.

Bob Violette

Bob Violette, 76, was a retired Sears mechanic and an avid bowler, his daughter-in-law Cassandra told the Portland Press Herald.

She described Violette as a kind and caring person, who had deep ties to the community as a lifelong Lewiston resident.

Violette started running a youth bowling league many years ago at the bowling alley that was targeted in Wednesday night's shooting. Friends of Violette told WBZ-TV that he was a longtime bowling instructor who was at Just-In-Time Recreation teaching kids at the time of the shooting. Several news outletsconfirmed Violette was one of the 18 people who was killed.

Lucille Violette

Lucille Violette, 73, the wife of victim Bob Violette, was also identified as one of the victims in the shooting rampage, according to Sauschuck. She and Bob were married for almost 50 years and had three sons and six grandchildren.

Stephen Vozzella

Stephen "Steve" Vozzella, 45, was identified as one of the 18 victims in Wednesday's mass shootings according to Sauschuck.

Jason Walker

Jason Walker, 51, was identified as one of the 18 victims in the mass shootings, according to Sauschuck.

Joseph Walker

Joseph Walker, 57, was publicly identified by severalnews outlets as one of the 18 victims who was killed in Wednesday night's mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine.

Walker's father, Auburn City Councilor Leroy Walker, said his son was the bar manager at Schemengees Bar and Grille, one of the businesses targeted by the shooter.

The elder Walker told MSNBC Thursday that he wants people to know that "Joe was a great, great son, a loving husband. He had two grandchildren and a stepson ... thousands of people loved him."

Walker said it took over 14 hours for their family to be notified of Joseph's death, calling it a "nightmare.” He added that Joseph's wife was "torn apart" by the news.

Walker told MSNBC he has suffered the loss of one of his children before, as his daughter died over 25 years ago in a car accident.

Aaron Young and Bill Young

Bill Young, 44, and his 14-year-old son, Aaron, were out for an evening of bowling at the Just-In-Time recreation center when they were killed in Wednesday night’s mass shooting, Reuters reported.

Bill’s brother, Rob Young, told the Los Angeles Times that it wasn’t until around 1pm on Thursday when the Young family learned from Maine state police that Bill and Aaron had died. Rob, who spoke to officers on behalf of Bill’s wife, expressed anger over how long it took to find out about his loved ones’ fate.

Rob said that Bill’s kids were “the most important thing to him,” adding that Bill had his daughter’s name tattooed on his forearm. He described his nephew Aaron as a smart kid who wanted to be just like his dad.

“They were both the apple of each other’s eyes," Rob told the Los Angeles Times.
