Hundreds of spiders crawl on family's garage to escape floods in Australia

Hundreds of spiders sought shelter in a family’s garage to escape from floodwaters in Macksville, New South Wales, on March 19.

Melanie Williams filmed this video that shows the spiders crawling all over her neighbour’s garage, before she received an order to evacuate her property.

Williams told Storyful that her house hadn’t been directly impacted by the floodwater and that the spiders had since “all gone back to where ever they came from.”

Hundreds of people have been rescued from floodwaters that have isolated dozens of towns in Australia’s most populous state as record rain continues to inundate the country’s east coast.

Around 18,000 people had been evacuated from flooding in New South Wales by Monday and emergency services feared up to 54,000 people could be displaced with rain forecast to continue until Wednesday.
