In the early hours of Tuesday, 6 June, 1944, more than 156,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, marking the start of the campaign to free north-west Europe from the Nazis.

The landings, codenamed Operation ‘Overlord,’ would become the largest naval, air and land operation in history, with 7,000 ships and landing craft and 10,000 vehicles involved.

To mark the 80th anniversary, The Telegraph is asking its readers to send us stories about their relatives or loved one, in order commemorate those who took part in the D-day landings.
