Hollyoaks star Jon-Paul Bell hints at darker side to Beau Ramsey

Hollyoaks star Jon-Paul Bell has hinted that there could be a darker side to his character Beau Ramsey.

Recent scenes have explored a potential relationship between Beau and newcomer Kitty Draper, and this week the pair will grow even closer when he helps her get a job at the hospital.

On what attracts Beau to Kitty, Jon-Paul told Inside Soap magazine: "He really enjoys her energy – Kitty's been like a firecracker coming into the village and shaking things up! He's intrigued by the way Kitty lives her life, and it's brought Beau out of his shell a bit."

However, viewers know that Kitty has been living a double life. Upon her introduction to the village during the crash that killed Ella Richardson, Kitty stole the identity of the deceased woman she was in a car with.

Jon-Paul has hinted that this secret could end up causing the couple problems in the future.

"Kitty's past, and the reason she's landed in the village, could escalate into bigger problems down the line," he said. "Beau has strong morals, but he's also very empathetic, so this could lead to us seeing darker shades of his character. It's about how far he's willing to go..."

Jon-Paul is hopeful the couple can go the distance, though, and is glad Hollyoaks is exploring the story of Beau falling for a trans woman.

"It's something that hasn't been explored much on TV, so I was interested to see where it would go," he added to Inside Soap. "I think the way Hollyoaks is tackling it is very realistic. It could be something that an audience member sees and relates to.

"Anything that raises questions and starts conversations is good in my opinion."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
