PlayStation 4 horror hit Until Dawn is getting a new version for PS5 and PC.

Developer Ballistic Moon has taken Supermassive Games' 2015 title and rebuilt it using Unreal Engine 5 while adding a load of new features, creating something that blurs the line between remaster and remake.

Announced at this week's State of Play, a trailer showcases this new version's enhanced visuals and introduces (or reintroduces) the game's premise and star-studded cast of actors.

Until Dawn features Nashville and Scream's Hayden Panettiere, Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek, Agents of SHIELD's Brett Dalton, Camp Rock's Meaghan Martin, and Superstore's Nichole Sakura as a group of friends who need to survive the night when people start dying. The story can go in multiple directions based on the player's choices.

As well as higher-resolution graphics, the game has received new animations, a re-done lighting system, and a third-person camera to see more of the world. Audio-wise, there's a brand-new musical score from The Black Phone and The Lighthouse composer Mark Korven.

The narrative will also be expanded, but it hasn't been revealed what specific changes will be made at the current time, with the developer stating: "We've endeavoured to keep the fantastic narrative integratory of the original, but we have seized the opportunity to expand upon unexplored emotional parts of the story."

The news of a new version of Until Dawn follows hot on the heels of the announcement of a movie adaptation, directed by Shazam!'s David F Sandberg and written by The Nun's Gary Dauberman, and targeting an R-rating.

Until Dawn is out now PS4 and can be played on PS5, while the native PS5 and PC versions will release later this year.
