A former football club managing director has been found by police after he was reported missing.

In a post on X, Danny Macklin said he had been found by police in Cornwall. Earlier, Essex police said its officers had been trying to find Macklin, who was last seen on foot in Great Notley near Braintree, Essex

Thanking well wishers, Macklin said that he would seek help and seek to rebuild his career.

“Sorry for the terrible pain I have cause so many,” he wrote.

Macklin left his role as managing director of League Two side AFC Wimbledon in September.

On Tuesday, he was charged by the Football Association with misconduct in relation to an allegation that he made abusive and sexist comments about a female colleague. He was given until 6 December to provide the governing body with a response.

Macklin has also worked at Leyton Orient, Southend United and Essex County Cricket Club.

Late on Friday evening, Leyton Orient confirmed in a post on X that he had been found.

“Danny has been found safe this evening. Thank you to all supporters for the help you have provided today,” the club’s post said.
