Deadpool & Wolverine spoilers follow.

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has addressed the return of a classic X-Men character in the film.

The sequel's Super Bowl trailer confirmed that Aaron Stanford will reprise his role as Pyro from the X-Men movies, but this time in the MCU alongside the Merc with a Mouth and Logan.

A classic member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants, Pyro's return is seemingly made possible in Deadpool & Wolverine because of the presence of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) and its reality-bending antics.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Shawn Levy spoke about how his team chose the X-Men movie characters making the jump to the MCU.

"I'll say we didn't start off with a wish list," the filmmaker said. "From the day we started devising this Deadpool & Wolverine story, we let the story dictate the characters, not the other way around.

"Aaron and his return as Pyro was an outgrowth of that, and that applies to pretty much all the characters you'll see in the movie."

When his return was first revealed, Aaron Stanford told Deadline he was "very excited" to be revisiting the mutant character he played in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Pyro isn't the only mutant appearing in the film, as Stefan Kapičić will once again be the voice of X-Men member Colossus, while X-Force characters like Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shatterstar and Yukio are all featuring, too.

To make the Multiversal crossovers even more mind-bending, Jennifer Garner is expected to be playing Elektra from the infamous Daredevil movie as well.

Fans can expect some timeline shenanigans, as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has recently confirmed Hugh Jackman is playing a different version of Wolverine from the X-Men films.

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+. Deadpool & Wolverine opens in cinemas on July 26.
