Dave Bautista is up for an MCU return – but not as Drax

Dave Bautista has revealed he would be up for returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though not in the role of Drax.

The actor bowed out as the fan-favourite character in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 after nearly a decade, though confirmed in a new interview that he would be up for a new Marvel challenge should he get the call.

Asked by io9 if there was any way he would return to the MCU, or if that part of his career was put aside, Bautista responded: "No, no. When I said that I was done, I was really just done with my journey as Drax.

"I still have a relationship with Marvel. I’ve seen Kevin Feige again, [producer] Lou [D’Esposito] as recently as two weeks ago. And they know that I would be up for a role," he continued.

"I love the universe – the superhero universe, I love it. I’m a fan. So Marvel or DC, if they call, I would answer the phone. And if the role makes sense, I’d be all over it.

"I just would like the opportunity to do a bigger role, a different role. Maybe a deeper role. I’d love to have the opportunity to play, like an ominous villain in the superhero universe. Yeah. But never. I’m not done with it. But my journey with Drax is over."

It comes after Bautista – who will soon be seen in Dune: Part Twotold Digital Spy last year that he would be open to doing another comic book role in the future.

"I'm open-minded to any role. I'm open-minded to any genre. I'm just open-minded about my career," he explained.

"It depends on what the role is. It depends on what I'm working with. I just want to work with very talented people. It's really to find out how good I can be."

The star added: "I would sign up for another trilogy. It just has to make sense. And it has to be a role that's worth it for me, because a trilogy – you know, I'm 54 now.

"A trilogy is over the span of 10 years, I'm guessing [laughs]. So it has to be worth it. If it's the right role, of course I would take it."

Dune: Part Two is released in cinemas on March 1. All three Guardians of the Galaxy movies and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are streaming on Disney+.
