Crying German fan turns down £36k crowdfunder

A young German pictured crying after her team lost to England has requested that the £36,000 raised for her goes to charity.

A JustGiving page was created for the child after some England supporters took great delight in her being upset.

Ex-footballer Stan Collymore shared screengrabs showing that some people online were taunting the girl over Germany's Nazi past.

In response, Welshman Joel Hughes started a campaign to raise money for the youngster as he wanted to show that "not everyone from the UK is horrible and that we care".

The target was initially £500 but in the end £36,000 was raised after donations from more than 3,200 people.

The family of the girl has now been tracked down and they expressed gratitude for the "amazing support" but insisted the child wanted the money to go to UNICEF.

A statement reads: "In the interests of our daughter and our family we would like to remain private however we wish to thank everyone for your amazing support.

"Our daughter would like to request your generous donations go to UNICEF, knowing that your kindness will do good."
