Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference smoked paprika and aioli

£1.50 (150g), sainsburys.co.uk
Quite a heavy crisp, you feel like you’re going to get your money’s worth. Texturally excellent; strong ridges. It tastes pure paprika-y. Very satisfying.

Walkers Max Pizza Hut pepperoni feast

£1 (50g), sainsburys.co.uk
These feel lighter than some of the others. They feel cheaper? They smell a bit dusty, and taste of spicy cheese. I wouldn’t bother with them again.
★★

Taylors haggis and cracked black pepper

£1.50 (150g), taylorssnacks.com
A really strange texture, almost fluffy, quite cakey when you eat a few. Very peppery on my tongue and throat.
★★

Torres fried egg

£4.89 (125g), souschef.co.uk

I think I know this brand. I love them. so light that you can eat a lot, but they’re expensive. What’s this flavour … Oh my God, it’s crispy egg? So weird. I don’t know how I feel.
★★★

Morrisons gyros & tzatziki handcooked ridge

£1.15 (125g), groceries.morrisons.com (in-store from 3 June)
I hate that. It’s a little bit murky, my mouth feels puckered. Tangy, but not nice. Like you’re brushing your teeth … is there a lot of mint?

Brown Bag Crisps tiger prawn, chilli and lime

£1.20 (40g), brownbagcrisps.co.uk
Wow! This is prawn cocktail! It tastes so fresh, in a way you don’t usually get with crisps. I can taste prawn and herbs. Really good texture. That’s amazing! I really like these.
★★★★★

Fox Premium black truffle and sea salt

£3.95 (120g), souschef.co.uk

Really flavourful truffle. Intense. You couldn’t eat a whole bag. They’d be nice when you have guests – and they probably wouldn’t eat them all, which is good. I like the thickness.
★★★★

Asda Extra Special habenero hot honey handcooked

£1.50 (150g), groceries.asda.com
Oh no. It smells savoury, but isn’t in taste. No thank you. So disgusting. It tastes like eating perfume and makeup together. Avoid at all costs.
No stars

Kent Crisps oyster and vinegar

£1.25 (40g), kentcrisps.com
This is my type of crisp. Good thickness. Strong flavour. Wait – I thought it was salt and vinegar but it’s not quite ... it’s a bit funky. A bit fishy? Love these. Fantastic.
★★★★★

Pipers jalapeño and dill

£3 (150g), piperscrisps.com
This is strong dill. Strong. I think my mum buys these. I love this brand of crisp overall, the quality is really good, but these are too overpowering. I hate them so much – that’s a me thing.

Aldi Specially Selected Kentucky smoked BBQ crinkle cut

£1.15 (150g), groceries.aldi.co.uk
They smell a bit like candle wax … they don’t taste it. They’re sweet, smoky. They taste a bit like barbecue sauce, or Worcestershire sauce. I really like these. Yummy. Very well done.
★★★★

Sarregui spicy chorizo

£4.60 (125g), souschef.co.uk
Oh, these feel expensive. Spanish and Italian crisps taste like this. The flavour is a bit meaty? They could be spicier too – but overall very nice crisps.
★★★★

Asda Extra Special caprese handcooked

£1.50 (150g), groceries.asda.com
These smell umami-ish, seaweedy. They’re actually quite nice. Herby. I don’t love them but I wouldn’t be upset with them. I’d eat these on the beach on holiday.
★★★

OLW dill and gräslök

£2.99 (175g), scandikitchen.co.uk
This is another dill crisp, and a nicer dill crisp. It’s a little potato-y, very light, easy to eat. Is it perfumey? Are you meant to have them with a dip? I don’t mind them.
★★★

Co-op Irresistible all dressed seriously saucy chips

£1.75 (150g), coop.co.uk
Love these. Bit acidic. They taste to me as if I was barbecuing sweet corn and then I put lemon juice on it, a bit of chilli. It’s not roasted sweet corn flavour? Obviously not. They’re so zingy.
