The mother who murdered her five-year-old son Logan Mwangi made a chilling hoax missing persons call to the police just hours after his death.

Angharad Williamson, 31, her partner John Cole, 40, and a youth defendant who cannot be named for legal reasons were found guilty of murdering Logan whose dead body was discovered in the River Ogmore in Bridgend just yards from her home on Thursday.

Prior to Logan's death, the child was subjected to a horrific level of abuse over several months, leading to the five-year-old self harming.

Cole and the youth carried Logan's body to the river in the early hours of 31 July, they then returned later to dispose of his dinosaur pyjama top which had been ripped during an assault.

The murderers then concocted a plan to report Logan as missing in an attempt to fool the authorities that he had escaped from the house, walked to the river, and drowned.

A key part of the plan was Williamson's role as the hysterical mother calling the police in a call which saw her begging and pleading the operator to bring her son home safely despite knowing full well his dead body was lying in the river just yards from her home.

She also went on to blame an innocent woman for Logan's disappearance claiming he had been kidnapped in the night as a form of revenge.

In the call she can be heard screaming "please please help me" while crying hysterically.

She claimed she had just got up and discovered Logan was missing.

During the call she can heard screaming "Logan Logan" calling out for him.

At one point she says her back gate had been opened and appears to walk out onto the street it leads to.

The operator on the other end of the call tries repeatedly to calm Williamson who is hysterical and often unable to answer questions.

Police found Logan's body on the morning of 31 July 2021 wearing dinosaur pyjama bottoms and a Spider-Man top just 250 metres from his home.

The child had suffered 56 external cuts and bruises, and “catastrophic” internal injuries, which were likened to a high-speed road accident.

Experts said the injuries could have only been caused by a “brutal and sustained assault” inflicted on Logan in the hours, or days, prior his death. They also said the injuries were “consistent with child abuse”.

In the months and weeks leading up to his death, Logan had been “dehumanised” by his family, prosecutors said.

Logan’s stammer is said to have worsened, becoming particularly bad around Cole. He wet himself more frequently and, at the age of just five, began self-harming.

After Williamson gave birth to his own child, Cole was reluctant to let Logan see the baby and later claimed the boy had tried to smother the infant.

Medics made a safeguarding referral to the police after Logan suffered a broken arm in August 2020, with Williamson saying he had fallen down the stairs.

She took him to hospital the day after the incident and said she thought he had only dislocated his shoulder and had tried to put it back.

Later she told a friend the youth had confessed to pushing Logan down the stairs but it was not until January last year she told the police.

In March last year the family were assigned a social worker, but in June they were taken off the child protection register because they were judged to no longer need it.

Weeks before he died, Logan suffered a broken collarbone but he never got medical treatment.

Prosecutor Caroline Rees QC said: “He had been kept like a prisoner in his small bedroom in the flat you saw, a room likened by Williamson as a dungeon.”

After being found guilty on Thursday Williamson screamed “no, no, no” and fell to the floor.

As Williamson was led from the dock, she struggled with the custody officers and shouted at Cole: “You lying motherf****** murderer.
