A person has been left fighting for life and another injured after a double stabbing at a major north London hospital.

Armed police swooped on Central Middlesex Hospital shortly after 1pm to reports of a stabbing and found two people injured.

A man, who had suspected self-inflicted injuries, was arrested outside the hospital. He has life-threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital.

Officers said the first victim has injuries “that are being treated as life-threatening.”

The second victim’s injuries are not being treated as life-threatening.

In a statement, the Met Police said: “Officers will remain in the hospital as further searches are conducted but at this time they are satisfied that no one else is sought.

“Police are working to establish the circumstances. At this time the incident is not being treated as terror-related.”

Footage of the scene showed staff outside the hospital having been evacuated.

Officers said the hospital was temporarily locked down but has now re-opened and will be operating services as normal.

Patients are being warned of a “heightened police presence”.

A spokesperson for London North West University Healthcare Trust, which runs the hospital, advised patients: “There’s an ongoing incident at Central Middlesex Hospital.

“Please follow any instructions given to you by the police.”

Brent MP Dawn Butler said she was “sorry to hear about the incidents in Central Middlesex Hospital,” and that “the police have acted quickly.”

The hospital is in the centre of the Park Royal business estate in north-west London.
