A seven-year-old boy has been left fighting for his life after he was hit by a van while on his scooter.

The boy was with a man in his 30s when they were involved in the incident in Oxfordshire on Sunday morning (29 August).

Thames Valley Police said both were seriously injured - the boy with life-threatening injuries - and had been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Their next of kin have been informed, the force said.

The van driver and four passengers were uninjured, the statement added.

The force said it has launched an investigation into the incident, which happened at about 11.30am on Sunday on the A4130 between Didcot and Wallingford on High Road, Brightwell-Cum-Sotwell, at the junction with Slade End.

Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Simon Hills, from Thames Valley Police's Roads Policing Unit, said: "We are at the very early stages of this investigation and firstly our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.

"We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened earlier today or if you saw the van, the pedestrian or boy on a push scooter before the collision took place."

He added: "If you have dash-cam and were in the area before the incident happened or if it has captured the incident, please get in touch.

"If you saw what happened or have any information you think could help our investigation please call us on 101 quoting the reference 43210387874."
