Pallets, bin bags and a washing machine were among items piled high on a car pulled over by police on Friday.

Pictures shared by Sussex Police on Twitter show the car piled dangerously high with the driver's belongings.

Various items can be seen precariously held down with ties strapped around the vehicle's door handles and windows.

The driver was stopped in Brighton on Friday and arrested for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and assaulting a Police Officer.

Sussex Road Police tweeted: "Colleague stopped the driver of this vehicle earlier in Brighton.

"Transpired the driver thought travelling around with all this on his roof was okay!

"He’s been arrested for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and assaulting a police officer."

Last week the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) shared images of a car pulled over on a motorway for dangerous driving where the driver was found to be driving with a flat-pack wardrobe across his car.

The motorist was behind the wheel of a "vehicle in a dangerous condition," which endangered other road users through a lack of driving view, the CMPG said.
