The Attorney General is looking at whether the sentences of two men convicted of murdering a footballer on a nightclub dance floor should be reviewed.

Cody Fisher, 23, died after being attacked and stabbed by a masked group at the Crane nightclub in Birmingham on December 26, 2022.

Remy Gordon and Kami Carpenter were handed life sentences with a minimum of 26 years and 25 years, respectively, on April 8 after being both found guilty of his murder.

But the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has been sent a referral arguing Gordon and Carpenter’s sentences were too lenient, according to the BBC.

A spokesman for Attorney General Victoria Prentis confirmed their sentences were under consideration after being referred under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

Law officers have 28 days from the sentencing date to review whether the sentence was appropriate, leading to a deadline of May 6.

Judge Paul Farrer KC, during the trial at Birmingham Crown Court, said: “In short, this was a sustained attack on a man who was significantly outnumbered and stood little or no chance of defending himself.”
