The first release of the 2023 Associated Press Top 25 poll has Texas No. 11 nationally, right above Tennessee and below Washington. The Longhorns had the biggest jump out of any team in the poll, leaping 14 spots from the end of last year, when they finished No. 25.

The No. 11 ranking is one spot higher than the recent USA Today coaches poll that had the Longhorns 12th overall.

Texas welcomes back 10 starters on offense and six on defense from a team that went 8-5 a year ago and lost to Washington in the Alamo Bowl. However, the coaches don't seem to believe in Texas' overall ability, despite them being the highest-ranked Big 12 team.

Kansas State at 16th is the next highest-rated Big 12 team in the poll with TCU and Oklahoma also coming in at 17th and 20th respectively.

UT opens the season on Sept. 2 at home vs. Rice.
