Help! Scared kitten named after John Lennon

A frightened kitten found on John Lennon Drive in Liverpool has been named after the musician on what would have been his 80th birthday.

The four-week-old ginger tabby was found alone and trembling on Thursday in the street named after The Beatles star, in the Kensington area of the city.

He was given a little help from his friends after being found by students who took him home and contacted the RSPCA.

RSPCA officer and Beatles fan Anthony Joynes named the kit Lennon after the music legend, who would have celebrated his 80th birthday on Friday.

And the musical moggy was treated to some of the Fab Four’s classic songs in Mr Joynes’s van as they travelled to the RSPCA branch in Wirral.

Mr Joynes said: “I am not sure if the kitten was abandoned or maybe he is semi-feral and had lost his mum or whether he had got lost from his home – but he was frightened and probably wouldn’t have survived the night if he was not found so I am grateful to the students for contacting us.

“He was far too young to be away from his mum on his own and if he has been rehomed by a breeder then it was far too early – and he definitely shouldn’t have been let out on his own at such a young age.

“When I was told by the students where he was found I just had to call him Lennon – I am a huge fan of the Beatles so it was fitting.

“Then on the way to the RSPCA Wirral branch I just thought what better songs to play than some of the Fab Four’s classics.

“It wasn’t such a Hard Day’s Night but that was one of the classics playing as well as the appropriately titled Help! and All You Need Is Love.

“To add to the coincidence I then discovered that it would have been John Lennon’s 80th birthday today – you really couldn’t make it up!”

Lennon is now being cared for at the Wirral branch and if his owner is not found he will be rehomed.
