EuroMillions winner puts seven-bed £6.5m mansion up for sale

EuroMillions winner Adrian Bayford is selling his £6.5m mansion in Cambridgeshire (Rightmove)

A £6.5m mansion owned by the winner of a £148m EuroMillions jackpot has been put up for sale.

Adrian Bayford won £148,656,000 in August 2012, and spent a chunk of the money on Horseheath Lodge, a Grade II-listed Georgian mansion in the middle of 189 acres of land.

But the millionaire is now selling the home in Linton, Cambridgeshire, because it reportedly reminds him of the bad luck he has suffered since his jackpot win.

The former postman and his ex-wife Gillian, who celebrated their lottery win by eating takeaway pizza, split up soon after moving into the huge home in 2012.

The Sun reported that Bayford bought the estate for £6,085,250 eight years ago and would have to sell it for £7,239,896 to break even once inflation is considered.

Adrian Bayford, 41, and wife Gillian, 40, from Haverhill, Suffolk, after a press conference at Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hatfield Heath, Hertfordshire, after they won £148.6 million on Friday's EuroMillions jackpot.

Farmlands on the grounds have been for sale for the past two years, but the house itself was put on property portal Rightmove earlier this month. The estate is being marketed by Strutt & Parker property consultants.

Bayford spent a reported £2m upgrading the estate, which includes stables, a gym, a swimming pool, a cinema, a billiards room, a bar and seven bedrooms.

The property also has a three-bedroom annexe and five separate cottages and a walled garden.

Bayford has since moved back to Scotland to be closer to his ex-wife and their two children, purchasing a £2.5m home in Perthshire.

The Sun reported that he split from his wife and two subsequent girlfriends while living at the Cambridgeshire estate.

A friend told the newspaper: "Adrian and Gillian had such bright hopes when they bought that house, but it has just never worked out.

"They split quickly after moving in and she went to Scotland with the children."

The couple were divorced 15 months after their lottery win.
