Map carved into volcanic rock thought to be 2,000 years old

A remarkable map depicted on a volcanic rock was discovered in Mexico.

Fox News reports experts from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History recently analysed the rock, which is on private land in Colima.

The map is estimated to be 2,000 years old.

According to Fox News: "The maps were used to manage the land in that area and also to pass knowledge from one generation to another."

Heritagedaily.com notes: "The stone has carved hollows that represent villages as well as lines that could be associated with natural orographic and hydrological features."
