'Major incident' declared as huge fire rips through industrial estate in St Helens
A fire that has ravaged an industrial building in St Helens has been declared a "major incident" by local authorities on Wednesday (May 20).
Footage shows large plumes of smoke rising from a warehouse blaze in the Earlestown area.
According to local reports, roads surrounding the area have been cordoned off as around 20 fire engines attended the fire.
A spokeswoman from Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "This has now been declared a major incident.
"20 fire engines are now in attendance, as well as the combined platform ladder, high volume pump and incident command unit.
"Firefighters are working in really challenging heat conditions.
"Road closures are in place around the area.
"Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed."
