Mother-of-six named as man faces court accused of her murder

Updated

Police have named a mother-of-six after a man appeared in court charged with her murder.

Officers were alerted after the ambulance service was called to help Stacey Cooper, 34, who was found at an address in Malham Gill, Redcar, on New Year’s Eve.

Liam Murray, 27, appeared before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with her murder and was remanded in custody.

Cleveland Police said Ms Cooper’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A friend of the victim, Laura Wright, has set up an online GoFundMe appeal to help the family.

She said Ms Cooper has been “tragically and horribly lost”, and her death has left six children without their mother.

She wrote: “Without their mother they are in need of support and we would appreciate monetary donations to help with funeral costs and support for the children.

“To lose my best friend is hard for me but for children to be without their mother is unbearable.”
