Groom killed by wedding crashers just hours after saying 'I do'

A California newlywed was reportedly killed by two men who crashed his wedding reception.

Joe Melgoza, 30, died the day after his wedding from blunt head trauma, according to NBC News.

Two men showed up uninvited to Melgoza and his new wife's wedding reception that was held in the bride's sister's garden. When they were asked to leave, the men complied, but later came back with bats, Andy Velasquez, Melgoza's brother, told NBC News.

"They came and they murdered my brother," Velasquez said. "My brother did no wrong; they took him from us."

Police responded to reports of a fight breaking out near the wedding reception, but Melgoza was initially "missing". He was eventually found nearby and taken to the hospital, where he later died.

"My brother did not deserve to die like that," Velasquez said. "He was a good man; he was a solid man."

Shortly after the groom died, police arrested brothers Rony Aristides Castaneda Ramirez, 28, and Josue Daniel Castaneda Ramirez, 19, on suspicion of killing Melgoza, People reported. The brothers are being held without bail, KTLA reported.

Authorities are not clear on if Melgoza knew the suspects prior to the attack. An investigation is still ongoing at this time.

Melgoza leaves behind not only his new wife, whose name has not been revealed, but also an 11-year-old daughter, Lilly.

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist with the funeral costs and for his daughter.

"He always had a way to make you smile," the GoFundMe said of Melgoza. "He was there for you at any time to give a helping hand. He was taken from us in such a tragic and horrific way."
