There are a lot of things you might not notice when you're drink - especially if you're also driving.

But one driver stopped by police took it to the next level after being found so drunk he hadn't realised the car he was in was missing a tyre.

Special constables from South Yorkshire Police arrested the driver after finding a badly-damaged Peugeot in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Saturday night.

Sharing details of the arrest on Twitter, they wrote: "Specials from Rotherham found this Peugeot tonight and arrested its driver for an expired license, no insurance, leaving an RTC, not showing up to court and last but by no means least, for driving whilst so incredibly drunk he failed to realise he was missing a tyre."

The penalties for drink driving include potential prison sentences, a driving ban and fines.

According to the government website, being in charge of a vehicle while above the legal limit or unfit through drink could lead to three months' imprisonment, up to £2,500 fine and a possible ban, while driving or attempting to drive while above the legal limit or unfit through drink can incur six months in prison, an unlimited fine and a ban.

Causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink carries possible sentences of up to 14 years' imprisonment, an unlimited fine, a driving ban, and an extended driving test before you can get your licence back.
