Family of farmers bury themselves up to their necks to demand government compensation

Farmers in a village in west India held a unique protest against local government, by burying themselves up to their necks, in order to demand compensation for the use of their land.

Two farmers, a man and a woman, buried themselves in their fields, in a protest that lasted for around three to four hours.

The argument between the farmers and authorities started when the Government installed a 60KV power supply on their land in Jetpur, Rajkot district, Gujarat.

This prompted an outcry of claims that the farmers were not reasonably compensated for the use of their land.
