Shocking dashcam footage shows moment toddler narrowly misses death when he tumbles out of a moving taxi

Shocking dashcam footage shows the heart-stopping moment a toddler was almost run and over and killed when he fell from a moving taxi.

Kris McGrory, 38, was on the school run when his on-board camera captured the stricken youngster lying helplessly in the middle of a busy road.

The dad-of-four had to slam on his brakes to avoid running over the child, aged around two or three, as he turned a corner at around 3.15pm on November 6.

A woman, believed to be his mum, can be seen stepping from the Skoda Octavia estate while waving her arms in an attempt to alert other drivers.

She then scoops up the child in her arms and takes him back to the Uber vehicle, which then drives off from the corner of Butts and Gordon Street in Earlsdon, Coventry.

Kris, a volunteer support worker who lives nearby, said he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the child sprawled out on the tarmac.

He said: "I had just left my apartment to pick up the kids from school and turned the corner to notice there was a taxi in front of me."

"They've gone around the corner and the door has just swung open suddenly. I didn't think too much of it at first, but then a split second later, a kid falls out."

"I would say he looks about three years old, tops. He looks quite big in the video but he was a toddler."

"He fell out and rolled on the floor. I had to brake quite quickly."

"She came out and was waving at cars saying 'slow down, slow down' as she was thinking her child was going to be squashed."

"But then she just literally scooped the kid up, got back in the car and off they went."

Kris believes the child was uninjured despite the horror fall which he says has left him shaken as a father of four children himself.

He added: "I'm shocked he didn't bang his head really hard as he fell. Even at 15mph falling from that high can be very dangerous."

"I would have liked to have thought she had his head seen by a doctor. He had a thick coat on and maybe that will have done him some favours."

"Someone was looking over him that's for sure."

"If I had been going any quicker or been any closer then it wouldn't have been a very nice situation at all."

"The road is a one-way system around there so you have to go left. Every car leaving that area would have all had to have flown up there."

"I could only imagine that he didn't have a seatbelt on and he must have been playing with the door at the same time."

"I'm sure it happens to a few people, but when you see it happening, its a bit of a different ball game, isn't it?"

"It's a kick up the bum to keep an eye on what the kids are doing in the car."

"I have four children myself and I have told them a few times 'don't play with the door' - but this video really hits home."
