Car accident in South Africa claims lives of a giraffe and a tourist

A safari took a tragic turn on Sunday when a giraffe was hit by a minibus and fell onto another passing vehicle in South Africa's Kruger National Park, CNN reports.

The minibus that struck the animal had 13 people onboard. After the collision, the giraffe fell onto an oncoming rental car driven by a Swiss tourist.

The accident left the giraffe dead and the Swiss man seriously injured. He was airlifted to hospital but later died.

"We are approaching the festive season in a month's time and encourage visitors to plan their trips between gates and camps so as to eliminate the need to hurry, please also exercise caution as the wildlife has no concept of traffic rules," the park said in a statement.
