The gap between the Conservatives and Labour is narrowing in recent general election opinion polls.

Polls by Survation, ICM and ComRes give the Tories a six, eight and seven point lead over Jeremy Corbyn’s party, respectively.

Despite still polling well ahead, Boris Johnson had been enjoying a double digit lead in most nation-wide surveys in the last couple of weeks.

YouGov had the Conservatives in a 13 point lead (Con 39, Lab 26) in work carried out on 7-8 November, and two Deltapoll surveys between October 31 and November 9 gave them 12 point leads.

Survation’s poll, published today, was based on field work carried out between 6-8 November of 2,037 people aged over 18 - before the Brexit Party announced it would not stand in 317 Tory seats.

ICM’s data came from 2,035 adults in Britain in a survey carried out between 8-11 November.

Its previous poll, based on work during 1-4 November, had the Tories in a seven point lead, with this week’s data showing a slight increase.

“The Conservatives continue to perform very strongly among Leave voters and there are indications that the proportion of Leavers intending to vote for the Brexit Party is dropping,” the polling service said.

“Six in ten Leave voters say that they will vote Conservative (61%, up 4 points from last week), while just over one in seven Leave voters say that they will vote for the Brexit Party (15%, down 3 points).”

The ComRes poll was based on 6,097 people and its work was carried out between October 30 and November 6.
