Hunter dies after being attacked by a deer he'd just shot

A hunter died after he was attacked by the deer he had just shot, according to officials in Arkansas.

Thomas Alexander, 66, was hunting in Yellville, Arkansas on Tuesday when he shot a buck. As he approached the animal, thinking it was dead, it attacked him.

"It's one of the stranger things that's happened," Keith Stephens of the state's Game and Fish Commission told the KY3 news channel, adding that he had worked there for 20 years.

"Evidently, it got up and attacked him and he was gored several times," Stephens said.

Alexander was able to contact his wife, who then called emergency services. Emergency workers requested an air evacuation, but the hunter stopped breathing and had to be taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
