Drunken train passenger shown spitting in police officer’s face

Shocking video footage has been released showing a drunken train passenger spitting in the face of a police officer.

British Transport Police (BTP) said Jamie Glover, 31, was arrested at York station after being part of a group causing a disturbance on a train.

As he was being led to a police van, he turned towards an officer and spat in his face, according to the force.

The incident happened at around 1pm on October 18.

BTP said Glover, of Wyvern Close, Batley, West Yorkshire, was found guilty at York Magistrates’ Court of assaulting an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly.

He failed to appear at a sentencing hearing on Tuesday.

Sergeant James Finch of BTP said: “There’re few things more disgusting than being spat at on duty. It’s completely repulsive behaviour, reserved for offenders either completely ignorant of the consequences or who have no respect for themselves or other people.

“This was initially a low-level case of anti-social behaviour, instead Glover chose to seriously escalate the situation and assault one of our officers.

“This is something we take extremely seriously, it’s not accepted as part of the job and he will face the consequences.”
