Former Chancellor Philip Hammond on his plan to break Brexit deadlock

Updated

Former Chancellor Philip Hammond has told LBC's Nick Ferrari the one way that the UK can solve the current Brexit impasse.

The Conservative MP said the UK should leave the political institutions of the European Union, but agree a Free Trade Deal which includes membership of a customs union.

He goes on to say this is the only way we can remove the Northern Irish backstop.

"What I'm trying to bring about is a deal, because the only way to resolve this situation in a way that heals this country that is so divided is a compromise deal."
