Teenager critically ill after hit-and-run

A teenager is in a critical condition after being among a group of four struck by a car in a hit-and-run, police said.

The 18-year-old suffered life-threatening head injuries when he was struck on Friday night on Lymington Road, Torquay, Devon

Devon and Cornwall Police said a blue coloured Vauxhall Tigra coupe collided with the four pedestrians, who were all aged 18, before hitting a parked car. The driver then fled on foot.

The force said armed response and roads policing officers attended the scene together with scenes of crime and forensic collision investigators.

Police dogs and a helicopter also assisted but were unable to locate the driver, who remains at large.

“One man is in a critical condition having sustained life-threatening head injuries,” a force spokesman said.

“A second man has sustained serious leg and hip injuries and both remain in Derriford Hospital.”

They added: “Police are appealing for witnesses and wish to hear from anyone who may have any CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist.”
