Selfridges to open permanent cinema at flagship London store

Selfridges is to open a permanent cinema in its flagship London store later this year.

The department store believes it is the first in the world to include a permanent film complex, which will have three “world class” screens – the largest seating 80 customers – and sound technology and open at the end of November.

The Selfridges Cinema will be open year round and screen a mix of blockbusters and independent films, with separate entrances inside the store and from the street.

The development is a partnership with independent cinema Olympic Studios, which currently has locations in Barnes and Battersea.

The cinema will offer a priority membership scheme and follows the growth of smaller venues offering premium seating and food and drink menus.

Selfridges managing director Simon Forster said: “For us this is a very exciting yet natural extension to what Selfridges does, which is to provide customers with an extraordinary experience all year round.”

Stephen Burdge, from Olympic Studios, said: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with Selfridges to create an amazing new cinema destination.

“The Selfridges Cinema will be our third and, as is the case with each of our locations, it will be unique and one I hope film lovers will love going to.”
