Family of killed Pc request formal police funeral

The family of Pc Andrew Harper who died while responding to reports of a burglary have requested a formal police funeral to take place.

The 28-year-old, from Thames Valley Police, was killed on August 15 near the village of Sulhamstead in Berkshire.

The newlywed died from multiple injuries after being dragged under a vehicle and was then possibly hit by a police car.

A force spokesman said: “Pc Andrew Harper’s family has confirmed that they wish for a formal police funeral to take place.

“We will continue to work closely with Andrew’s family so that their wishes are front and centre and ensure that the funeral is a fitting tribute that honours our colleague Andrew’s strength, courage and bravery.

“At this time we are not able to confirm any further details of the arrangements but will do so when we are able.

“The family have asked that their privacy be respected at this very difficult time.

“We would like to thank the public, the wider police family and our partners for all of their support and tributes to our colleague PC Andrew Harper.”

Pc Harper had been married to Lissie for just four weeks when he died, and she described him as “the kindest, loveliest, most selfless” person.

Police forces across the country held a minute’s silence in his honour on August 23.
