Former American Idol contestant Haley Smith, 26, dies in motorcycle crash

Haley Smith, a former "American Idol" contestant, died on Saturday morning at the age of 26, TMZ reported on Tuesday.

The singer passed away in Millinocket, Maine, after crashing her motorcycle in a one-vehicle crash. According to the outlet, "Police say it appears she failed to make a sharp turn along a residential road that becomes a highway in certain sections. Police say she was pronounced dead at the scene."

Haley's father, Mike Smith, told TMZ, "Haley was riding on a country road and her family believes a deer might've caused the accident -- as he implied she was a good rider, and they doubt she simply lost control of her bike."

Haley auditioned for season 11 of the hit Fox show at the age of 18, with a rendition of Rufus and Chaka Khan's "Tell Me Something Good." She went on to make it to Hollywood, clearly impressing judges, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Comments have been flooding her audition video on YouTube: "I got to know Halley the past few months and she will be greatly missed," one person wrote.
