World's oldest rock groupie, 92, spends every gig 'at the front dancing from start to finish'

The world's oldest groupie says drinking dark rum every day has enabled her to avidly follow her favourite rock band - at the age of 92.

Chrissie Younge has seen Bolton-based band The Jade Assembly more than 60 times since she stumbled across them by chance in 2013.

Despite her age, the former can-can and professional ballet dancer spends every gig "at the front dancing from start to finish".

Chrissie - who lives by herself independently and has no children - says she has no plans to give up and wants to carry on watching them "until the day I die".

The retired chiropractor, from Egerton, Greater Manchester, said: "They're like my family.

"I haven't got any family or children but they have welcomed me with open arms.

'I plan on following them until the day I die'

"They pick me up before their gigs in the bus and (lead singer) John (Foster) sings all the way there and plays the guitar."He always plays my favourite song Nothing Changes."It's great and I plan on following them until the day I die."I'll never stop going to their gigs - it keeps me young."

Chrissie was born in Lincolnshire in April 1927 - the same year as the Queen - and like many women at the time got married when she was young.

When it quickly ended in divorce, the professional ballet dancer went to work in Paris' famous cabaret halls as a can-can dancer in the 1950s and 60s.

She later returned to the UK where she trained as a chiropractor in her 30s - a profession she remained in until she retired at 65.

Since then Chrissie, whose second marriage also ended in divorce, has settled in a bungalow in Egerton, Bolton.

She lives independently by herself and still drives without assistance.

Chrissie credits her youth to eating very little and drinking tea during the day followed by dark rum with soda every evening.

'Dark rum keeps the blood in my veins young'

"I eat lots of cereal like cornflakes every day," she explained."I have at least two bowls - one in the morning and one at the end of the day.

"I eat very little meat and always enjoy a dark rum and soda in the evening - it keeps the blood in my veins young and keeps me dancing.

"Whenever I go and see the band I indulge in a drink or two as well - it would be rude not to."

Band manager Mick Watson said that Chrissie is famous for "knocking back drinks like a youngster" at their gigs.

"The Jade Assembly's fans are called the Jade Army," he explained."All the fans say she is head of the army."She just laughs and says she's glad to be head of something."

The Jade Assembly are currently touring and are raising money for a homeless charity with their latest single Nothing Changes.
