Men save girls washed out along Dublin coast on inflatable flamingo

Two young girls were rescued by a group of men after they were washed out along the Dublin coast on an inflatable flamingo.

According to the recorder of the footage, Mags Long, she was out walking in Portmarnock and noticed a pink flamingo float drifting swiftly out to sea.

Malahide man Gerard Tyrell was the first in the water to attempt to assist the girls before three other men followed.

The men worked together against the current and winds to return the float and girls back to shore where their parents were anxiously waiting.

Long added that the incident "happened in the space of 3 minutes".

Speaking to Dublin Live, Tyrell said: "The parents were very grateful. I don't think they were able to swim. They didn't speak much English but they came over and shook our hands.
