Public reaction to Boris Johnson as next PM

The appointment of Boris Johnson as leader of the Conservative Party and next prime minister of the United Kingdom has sparked a polarised reaction among some members of the public.

While it's certainly true that he is for many a Marmite politician, for the Conservative Party, they believe he's the Heineken PM - able to reach the parts other Tory leaders can't.

Elected by just 0.4% of the UK electorate - that is Tory party members - and you see that the biggest challenge is that, no one is quite sure how the rest of the country will feel about an MP who has had a controversial and chaotic career.

The Press Association took to the streets to gauge the initial reaction to his elevation to the highest office in the land - and it was clear that there are major misgivings amongst voters.
