New Melania Trump statue unveiled in her hometown gets mixed reviews

A statue of US First Lady Melania Trump has been unveiled in her hometown in Slovenia - and the reviews are mixed.

The raised sculpture was carved from a large linden tree in the town of Sevnica, where the former model was born, and shows her in the blue outfit she wore at her husband Donald Trump's inauguration as US president in 2017.

The artwork was created by local chainsaw artist Ales Zupevc, known as Maxie - and the reaction to his work has divided residents.

One said: "The sculptor worked a long time on this, I think it took him three days to make it and she does not look as beautiful as she normally is."

Others dubbed it a "disgrace" and a "Smurfette".

However one woman remarked: "You know what makes her resemble Melania? Look how high she climbed to the top. Just like real Melania who rose to the top of America."
