Royal baby Archie's godfather named as Prince Harry's school friend Charlie van Straubenzee

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced earlier this week that they would not be revealing the identities of baby Archie's godparents.

But one of the eight-week-old's godfathers has been named as Charlie van Straubenzee by The Sunday Times.

The businessman became friends with the Duke of Sussex, 34, at Ludgrove Prep School in Berkshire, and has been described as his "wingman".

He gave a speech at the Sussex's wedding last year where he joked that Harry was "a ginger".

In one of their first public appearances as a married couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen attending Charlie's wedding to videographer Daisy Jenks last August, where it is believed Harry served as best man.

Charlie's older brother, Thomas, is best friends with Prince William and is Princess Charlotte's godfather.

It was announced last month that Thomas is engaged to Prince George's school teacher Lucy Lanigan-O'Keeffe.

She teaches outdoor learning and mindfulness at Thomas's Battersea, in south-west London.

Charlie is believed to be one of fewer than 30 guests to attend Archie's christening at Windsor Castle yesterday.

His naming as Archie's godfather comes as Harry and Meghan continue to keep the remaining godparents under wraps.

They released a statement ahead of their son's baptism earlier this week - part of which read: "The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private."

However, it has been speculated that Meghan's friends Jessica Mulroney and Serena Williams could take on the role.

Yesterday, they shared two official photographs from the occasion to Instagram - one taken with royal family members in the Green Drawing Room and the other, of the new royal parents with their firstborn, in the Rose Garden.

Captioning the post, they wrote: "Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie."

Archie was baptised in the Honiton christening gown, which Prince William and Kate Middleton's three children all wore.

In accordance with royal tradition, The Lily Font and water from the River Jordan were used during the christening, which was officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.

The Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Meghan's mother Doria Ragland were in attendance, as were Princess Diana's sisters Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale.
