Archie’s godparents not ‘celebrities’ as Meghan and Harry keep christening details private
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son will be christened in a Private Chapel at Windsor Castle, on Saturday 6 July, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
While Meghan and Harry will later share photos of their son Archie Harrison, his godparents “in keeping with their wishes, will remain private.”
In the lead-up to Archie’s birth on May 6, there was much speculation about who his godparents will be.
Among the names widely tipped to be chosen were tennis star Serena Williams, Meghan’s close friend Jessica Mulroney, George and Amal Clooney and Prince Harry’s cousins Zara Tindall and Princess Eugenie.
But it’s believed that none of Harry and Meghan’s high profile friends have been chosen.
ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship tweeted: “The godparents, I’m told are not public figures or celebrities, but private citizens. And therefore both they, and Harry and Meghan, don’t wish their names to be made public.”

This is similar to the decision taken by Prince Harry’s cousin Zara Tindall and her husband Mike when their children Mia, five, and one-year-old Lena, when they were baptised.
While royal christenings have always remained private, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have allowed the media to capture their arrival with all three of their children.

In keeping with their wishes around their son’s birth, Meghan and Harry are said to want to raise Archie out of the public eye.
Meghan and Harry gave the world its first glimpse of their newborn son, two days after his birth, during a brief photocall at Windsor Castle.
To celebrate US Mother’s Day, the Sussexes released a photo of new mum Meghan holding Archie, with just his toes visible in the Instagram post.
The public got another glimpse of the royal tot on Father’s Day, when the couple released a sepia-toned snap of Harry holding Archie in his arms.
The decision to keep Archie’s christening completely private has divided social media users, after it was revealed that renovations for the Meghan and Harry’s new home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, cost taxpayers £2.4m.
Who are the Cambridge children’s godparents?
Prince George, five, has seven godparents; Prince William’s cousin Zara Tindall, university friend Oliver Baker, Kate’s school friend Emila Jardine-Paterson, the couple’s former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, William’s pals Hugh Grosvenor and William van Cutsem, and Princess Diana’s close friend Julia Samuel.
Princess Charlotte, four, has five godparents. They are Laura Fellowes (Princess Diana’s niece) Kate’s cousin Adam Middleton, Thomas van Straubenzee and James Meade, who are William’s oldest school friends and Kate’s long-term friend Sophie Carter.
One-year-old Prince Louis godparents are William’s close friends Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly and Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lady Laura Meade, Kate’s cousin Lucy Middleton and her college friend Hannah Carter.
