Child accidentally shoots and kills twin brother

A California mother was arrested after her 12-year-old son shot and killed his twin brother while the boys were playing with a handgun, police said.

Gabriela Keeton was arrested on child endangerment charges and was being held in lieu of £80,000 bail, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The boys, who were home alone, got hold of an "unsecured" gun, loaded it and one brother accidentally shot the other in the torso, police said. The child died after being rushed to a nearby hospital Monday night, according to authorities.

Investigators contacted the boys' 45-year-old mother and took her into custody.

Police admonished residents who own guns, reminding them to keep them locked up and out of reach of children.
