Charles and Camilla enjoy steins and dancing at Munich beer hall

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall waltzed their way into Munich for the third day of their tour of Germany.

The couple visited a beer hall in the city, where more than 150 elderly citizens were dancing in traditional German clothes.

Camilla was the first to be invited to dance by 88-year-old Hans Klaindl at the Hofbrauhaus brewery on Thursday.

Charles followed with a woman named Margot Biccenger as the two couples took centre stage on the dance floor.

As a live band played at the front of the hall, both the prince and the duchess danced a waltz with their respective partners to two songs.

During the first number, the dancing regulars gathered round to catch a glimpse of the pair in action, before joining in with the second song.

At the end of the dance, Ms Biccenger said she could barely catch her breath from dancing with the prince.

Before taking to the dance floor, Charles and Camilla enjoyed a German beer in the traditional litre glasses commonly associated with beer halls in the country.

Earlier, Charles and Camilla were greeted by thousands of locals in Max-Joseph Platz, where they had arrived five hours before the prince and the duchess.

A loud three-gun salute marked the couple’s arrival, as well as hundreds of people dressed in traditional German clothing.

Children presented Camilla with flowers and the prince was handed small teddy bears for the new royal baby.

One of the more unusual gifts for Archie was a board that contained some lederhosen and a toy pretzel.

Minister-President of Bavaria Dr Markus Söder then presented Charles with a gift of lederhosen for his new grandchild after he had signed the state’s golden book at the Munich Residenz.

Commenting on the present, the prince said: “Thank you, I had some years ago.”

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are due to conclude their four-day tour of Germany on Friday.
