NASA simulate asteroid hitting New York City

According to Business Insider, "NASA ran a terrifying simulation to see how it would prevent an asteroid from hitting the planet.

Participants managed to deflect it, but knocked a chunk off that headed towards New York". The hypothetical asteroid was 165 to 260 feet wide and would have more energy than multiple nuclear warheads.

In the simulation the only way to remain safe is to evacuate New York. The point of the exercise was to practice for real asteroid impacts.
