Queen gave Meghan dressing down over treatment of staff

A royal author reveals that the Queen spoke to Meghan about her treatment of staff during one incident in the lead-up to the royal wedding last May.

Speaking to Yahoo UK’s ‘The Royal Box’ Katie Nicholl says: “Meghan had gone to Windsor Castle to taste some of the food that was going to be served at the reception.

“Now she had insisted on there being a macrobiotic alternative, I suppose with there being that many Hollywood stars, you would expect that to be the case.

“She got very upset when she felt she could taste egg in a dish and she was told there was no egg and she said ’No I can taste it, I can taste there’s egg in this dish.’

“And I think there was a bit of an upset when suddenly the Queen walked in, because of course this is Windsor Castle, this is her home. And she just quietly took Meghan to the side and said ‘Meghan, in this family, we don’t speak to people like that.’”

Nicholl says that Meghan wasn’t the only one to get a get a dressing down from the monarch, Harry was also called in to see his grandmother regarding his behaviour before the wedding.

She points out that there was added stress for the couple at the time, not just because of the media attention, but also the issue of Meghan’s father Thomas Markle.

The retired TV lighting director, who lives in Mexico, admitted he’d set up paparazzi photos in exchange for money and didn’t end up walking his daughter down the aisle at St George’s Chapel, due to a health scare.

Since then, the duchess has been estranged from her father.

Nicholl adds: “I think we can forgive them for being on a bit of a short fuse or being a little bit more sensitive than they might ordinarily have been.

“Apparently they were having acupuncture in the run-up to the wedding because they were so stressed out.”

Meghan has also had to deal with a wave of negative press, with one report claiming that staff at Kensington Palace had given her the nickname ‘Me-gain’ because of her ‘demanding’ behaviour.

PR expert Nick Ede previously told ‘The Royal Box’: “Meghan’s clickbait to lots of people, people want to be negative about her, she’s the latest member of the royal family and rather than celebrate her, people want to bring her down.

“They were saying ‘she’s working too hard, she’s showing off, she’s demanding.’ There’s no truth in any of this.

“She had to take on so many different roles, charities and lots of different responsibilities and she’s taken it and really driven forward lots of great things for the Royal Family. I think people just want to chastise her for it.”
