A statement from the White House outlines formal details for their upcoming travel plans, but social media users have picked up on the wording.

It reads: "President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump accepted the invitation of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to visit the United Kingdom from June 3 to 5, 2019."

Twitter users were quick to point out the mistake in the address of the monarch.

The Queen is usually referred to as "Her Majesty," or "Your Majesty," if individuals meet her in person.

President Trump and Mrs Trump previously joined the Queen for tea at Windsor Castle in July 2018.

Mr Trump was criticised for breaching royal etiquette by walking in front of the monarch during his audience with her.

He was invited to inspect the guard of honour and marched on ahead of her, before coming to an abrupt stop, forcing Her Majesty to walk round him.

Further details of the State Visit programme will be announced by Buckingham Palace in due course.
