Donald Trump confuses Jewish people with Israelis during speech

President Donald Trump spoke at the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During his speech he referred to the crowd of Jewish Republicans as Israelites multiple times.

Additionally, Trump criticised American lawmakers for not serving Israeli interests.

He referred to Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, as "your prime minister".

The American Jewish Committee has criticised the president over the remark, adding that his words could "feed bigotry".

Israel is holding a general election in the coming days, with Netanyahu vowing to "impose sovereignty" on the occupied West Bank if he is returned to office.

The incumbent faces a tight race against ex-military chief Benny Gantz.
