Jobs lost after historic pottery firm goes out of business

Hundreds of jobs have been lost after a historic pottery firm went out of business.

The GMB union said workers at Dudson, which has been making tableware, glassware, and fine china in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, since 1800 were told by administrators to take any possessions they had and leave the premises.

The union complained there was no consultation with staff before the announcement, which the GMB said was a breach of legal requirements.

The GMB said it will now pursue a protective award on behalf of its members over the failure to consult.

GMB official Wendy Greiveson said: “This is another devastating blow for the Potteries.

“It is outrageous staff were simply told the company was bust and to leave the premises with no notice whatsoever.

“Dudson have clearly failed in the duty to consult.

“As a result GMB will be pursuing a protective award on behalf of our members.”

The GMB said 310 jobs will be lost.
