Gareth Southgate to receive OBE for services to football at Buckingham Palace

Updated

England manager Gareth Southgate has arrived at Buckingham Palace to collect an OBE for services to football.

He joins others to be honoured including the composer Shirley Thompson, sculptor Alison Wilding and economist Tim Harford.

Southgate, 48, collects his gong one week after England striker Harry Kane, 25, was given an MBE at the Palace.

The manager, who last year guided England to their first World Cup semi-final since 1990, is among about 100 people to be handed honours.

The ceremony also includes military and police personnel named in the New Year Honours list for 2019.
