Cow pulled from 40-foot pit in India after 6-hour rescue

A few brave locals pulled a cow from a 40-foot deep pit in a Herculean rescue effort on March 30 in Fatehabad, North India.

The cow was grazing near the pit which had been dug to build a community building when it wandered too close and fell in.

A passerby heard the cow lowing from inside and a team of local men quickly assembled and started the rescue operation.

The task was made difficult by the narrowness of the pit but they managed to lower inside a volunteer who placed a harness around the stricken animal.

Then they used a crane to haul the cow to safety. The entire operation lasted about six hours.
