Gardai uncover suspected alcohol and cigarette plant

Gardai have discovered a suspected alcohol bottling and cigarette manufacturing plant during a raid on a property in Co Louth.

A joint intelligence-led operation by the Cross Border Joint Action Task Force saw gardai from Dundalk, the Northern Regional Armed Support Unit and officers from the Department of Revenue search a warehouse in Knockbridge on Saturday.

Gardai said the suspected factory had the capability of producing cigarettes and alcohol with an estimated loss of 25 million euro (£21.5 million) to the exchequer.

No arrests were made during the search and investigations are ongoing.
